SCHOOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAC)

The major objective of the SHAPE American Elementary School Advisory Committee (SAC) is to contribute advice to the Principal on all matters affecting the operation of the school. Committee matters include school policies, instructional programs, budget, facilities, maintenance, administrative procedures, pupil personnel services, educational resources, student standards of conduct, school meal programs, and other educationally related matters.

 

All Parents are welcome to attend the SAC meetings that are held the 1st Thursday of the month in the Elementary School library at 1545.

 

SAC Committee Members are both parents and teachers who have been elected for a two-year term by SAES parents.

 

Goals of the School Advisory Council

1. Goal 1: Establish and enhance communication with the SHAPE Elementary School Community.

§ Establish a permanent email account. ShapeES.SAC@eu.dodea.edu

§ Update and maintain current information on the SES website.

§ Monthly update on SAC-related issues in the school newsletter to further enhance communication and awareness of the SAC and SAC issues within the SES community.

2. Goal 2: Support and augment Reading and Literacy Programs, an integral part of the School Improvement Plan .

§ Host or assist in the operation of a Book Swap.

§ Encourage the school to post a listing of the Reading Counts tests currently available for our students on the external SES website.

3. Goal 3: Bring to the attention of the IAC the need to improve the lunches offered the students through the AAFES Lunch program.

§ Portions, menu, preparation.

§ Invite AAFES Cafeteria Manager to attend a SAC meeting and explain his program, his limitations, et cetera.

4. Goal 4: Increase community involvement/participation within the school, especially in the realm of science and technology, another integral part of the School Improvement Plan.

§ Invite community members to share their expertise with classes of students.

§ Investigate possibilities for a Science Fair (either student-driven or perhaps a science/technology ‘exposition').
